I am commanded by the Army Council to advert
to War Office letter 10/3378 (F.1.) of the 15th September, 1922, relative to the Military Contribution by the Colony of Hong Kong.
It will be seen from Statement C, enclosed, that the contribution based on the actual revenue of the Colony in respect of the financial year 1920/21 amounted to £541,311, 15, 4, as compared with the provisional contribution of £537,421. 9. 11. notified in the above- mentioned letter. The cost of the garrison in 1920/21 exceeded the amount of the contribution by £316,283.4.8. (vide Statement D. enclosed).
With regard to the financial year 1921/22, I am to send you the enclosed statements (marked A and B) showing respectively the cost of the Garrison, and the amount of the Military Contribution (Provisional), based on the estimated revenue, in respect of that year. It will be seen that the cost of the Garrison exceeded the provisional contribution by £247,452. 6. 7.
